I write to you, future reader, and in so doing I am traveling to your time.
I’m teleporting to where you are and we’re having a conversation. It’s one-sided but I hope it will be good.
It’s nice to meet you in your time and space. I hope your day is going well? My time and my location is different to yours of course. Right now I am sitting at a desk in an open plan office. It’s September 2016 and I am in Johannesburg. It’s nearly the very end of Winter here. How’s the weather your side? What day of the week is it?
I don’t even know your name. I am the transmitter of this message and I don’t know who you are. But you know my name and as I write I can reveal things to you about myself. Right now I have all the cards.
You, my friend, are a complete mystery to me.
I’m sure we’ve got the same hopes and dreams. We’re all in this together. I’m hoping for happiness and to not die alone – that’s what we all want, right?
As I write I wish you all the best, without judgement. I can’t judge you since I don’t know a damn thing about you. You could be a saint or an absolute lunatic. I’ll go with the glass is half full.
I can send you thoughts, ideas, things. How real these things become are up to you, Dear Reader.
If I send you a pink orangutan BAM! it appears in your head. Magical stuff, yes?
I can make you feel uneasy or excited or I can make you laugh. I can make you feel bored or frustrated. It’s all done through this keyboard.
Once you receive this transmission you can change roles and become the transmitter. That will make my future self a receiver. I hope my future self enjoys your transmission. What will you send me?
Assuming you get this. Or write back.
